The secretary general of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), Taleb Rifai, in recent statements has indicated that the tourism industry should learn from the crisis suffered last year in order to prepare for the transformation that is going to need the world tourism the year 2010.
These statements were made after his participation in the V Leadership Forum organized by the Tourism Alliance for Tourism Excellence (Exceltur). It has also expressed that tourism has endured better than other sectors of the economic crisis. He stated that 2009 was a difficult year because there was a fall of 4.3 per cent in the number of tourists worldwide.
According to Rifai, 2008 and 2009 should draw lessons: that there is a new business model that management should promote a public-private partnership, that we must apply the best technology, and to be considered tourism as a sector works with all factors of the economy and not isolated.
