OMT : Secretary of the WTO notes that innovation is the industry's global challenge

The secretary general of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), Taleb Rifai, in recent statements has indicated that the tourism industry should learn from the crisis suffered last year in order to prepare for the transformation that is going to need the world tourism the year 2010.

These statements were made after his participation in the V Leadership Forum organized by the Tourism Alliance for Tourism Excellence (Exceltur). It has also expressed that tourism has endured better than other sectors of the economic crisis. He stated that 2009 was a difficult year because there was a fall of 4.3 per cent in the number of tourists worldwide.

OMT : Tourism ministers support call for global policies

This act in the WTO Ministerial Summit, held at World Travel Market in London, met about 80 tourism ministers on 10 November where urged to adopt global policies to support tourism and travel. Ministers recalled that tourism is one of the first job creators in the world and can be a key driver of recovery and transformation into a green economy. Regarding the road map plan for the future, the summit gathered the following ideas:

oLa solving the economic and environmental challenges is a joint task for the travel industry and tourism. These challenges are closely related to the program of activities for poverty reduction and the sector's potential to act upon them all.

OMT : World Tourism Barometer shows in its issue of June 2009

(HotelsToursandTourism.com).- The World Tourism Organization (WTO), reported that international tourism has experienced a drop by 8% between January and April this year, with 247 million passengers compared to 269 million reported in same period of 2008. It was also reported to be a fall of between 6 and 4% for 2009.

According to the Barometer of the UNWTO World Tourism, in its issue of June, France remains the favorite destination of the planet, with 79 million visitors, while United States has regained second place, while Europe is region most affected by the global crisis, with an interannual decrease of 10 points.

(HotelsToursandTourism.com).- The World Tourism Organization (WTO) over its report "Towards a tourism industry with low carbon" calls upon the tourism sector to respond to the fight against climate change and so will join the reduce emissions of carbon dioxide, Antipas and the United Nations conference on Climate Camblio to be held within six months.

This report is a collaboration between the World Economic Forum (WEF), the WTO, the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), UNEP and the world of tourism management, in which the WTO makes proposals for mitigation the emission of greenhouse gases in various fields, including transport and accommodation.
